My daughter has loved cats for as long as I can remember. Her favourite movie was Aristocats and one of my favourite videos is of her signing Everybody Wants to be a Cat in her toddler voice. For her 10th birthday, she wanted a Cat Cafe birthday party so we set one up at home.
Her collection of cat toys provided us with decorations! I found a Ginger Ray party hat garland from Tesco and used them to create party hats for the cats. I bought a set of cat decorations from Amazon, including paper plates, straws, cups, balloons, banners, cake toppers and a tablecloth (AD Aff link).
She wanted a Funfetti birthday cake. When I looked up a recipe they all said that UK sprinkles lose their colour when baked. But Instagram came to my rescue and you all told me about the Betty Crocker Rainbow chip cake mix which I found in Asda. I forgot to get a photo of the inside but it worked brilliantly. Lots of people also suggested the Get Baked Sprinkles (Ad Aff link) which are bake-stable. My go-to birthday cake decorating technique is to stick some toys on top! It's easy, looks cute and they get to keep them afterwards.
I bought a selection of mini flapjacks, brownies and cupcakes to put on a cake stand and used chocolate chips and buttons to create paw prints. So quick and easy and they looked really cute.
We had funny cat and cute kitten YouTube videos playing on the TV while we waited for everyone to arrive and then we did a Cat Cafe themed escape room. I bought the printable from Etsy and hid the challenges around the room for them to find. The pack came with clues and hints and once they had solved it the Cat Cafe was officially open.
Instead of party bags, we bought a kitten for everyone to "adopt". I bought Pets Alive Smitten Kittens (AD Aff link) and we put them in a large cardboard box and did a lucky dip. These were such a hit and they played with them throughout the party.
After they opened their surprise kittens, we created name collars for them. I bought friendship bracelet kits from TK Maxx and put the beads into cat food bowls. I attached the string to a baking tray with a magnetic clip (AD Aff Link) so they wouldn't let go and lose their beads.
Then we played the cat litter game. I didn't know how this would go down but they LOVED it! I created a "cat litter tray" by filling a tub with rice crispies. They took turns to put the blindfold on and try to scoop out the "poo" which was really Malteasers. They put whatever they scooped into a tray next to them and ate the Malteasers once they had scopped all 6 "poos"!
My sister made a cat themed quiz and we did a Zoom call so she could be the quiz master. She has given me the quiz which is attached below if you would like to use it. We finished the party with birthday cake then they all headed home with their new kittens and I headed to the sofa for a cat nap! Everyone had a lovely time.
